In honor of World Poetry Day, the We Gatherin’ Secretariat, the Division of Culture – Prime Minister’s Office, and PoeTree Barbados came together to host a spectacular celebration at Rock Hall Freedom Village on March 21st.
With over 150 attendees, including many proud members of the St. Thomas community, the evening was alive with energy, rhythm, and soul. Barbados’ top poets, musicians, and hip-hop artists delivered powerful performances that stirred hearts and uplifted spirits.
The night’s standout moment was the presentation of the 8th PoeTree Barbados Griot Award, where PoeTree Co-Founder Akeem Chandler-Prescod paid tribute to Adisa ‘Aja’ Andwele for his remarkable contributions to rhythm poetry in Barbados.
It was a true celebration of culture, creativity, and the timeless power of words to connect, inspire, and transform.
