A welcome message from The Prime Minister of Barbados
My fellow Barbadians,
It is my distinct pleasure to announce that We Gatherin’ again! It has been five years since the Covid-19 pandemic brought our original plans to a halt. However, we never lost sight of our vision. After sailing through the rough seas of uncertainty, we’ve steadied the ship and are back on course for a BIG BAJAN celebration in 2025. As the clock strikes 12 on Old Years night, so it begins our 52-week festival commemorating all things Barbadian. And there is so much in store!
Each month is dedicated to one of our eleven parishes, a special theme and a colour. For example, in January we start at the crown of our island in the parish of St. Lucy. There, the theme is Faith, where we reflect upon the various denominations that provide spiritual direction to numerous locals. The colour Jade will be dedicated to this month and will be on full display at various events during that time. (I invite you to visit wegatherinbim.com for the full list of themes and colours so you can get familiar.) Then we end the year with an island wide bonanza from November 30th to December 31st to close out a great year of Gatherin’.
During this time, we will also have various community activities and exhibitions dedicated to our culture and traditions. Like a national cook off competition to see who is the best chef in Bim. And a Star Bajan Competition which will honour Barbadians who exemplify excellence in their fields. Barbados will also play host to CARIFESTA in 2025, and we will have a special Gatherin’ with our brothers and sisters across the region.
As we aim to strengthen the bond between home and the diaspora, we invite our brothers and sisters overseas to Come long home. Visit family and friends, reconnect with your heritage and breathe a new life into rekindling community spirit. Our doors are open and we can’t wait to see you! We Gatherin’ again and we can’t do it without you. See yuh soon!
The Honourable Mia Amor Mottley, S.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Barbados
