With over 75 years of continuous air travel from Canada to Barbados, the island was reintroduced to that market via Barbados Week in Toronto. Hosted by the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Barbados Week in Toronto brought a series of events to Canada’s largest city, showcasing Barbados as one of the most desirable destinations for Canadian travellers. This follows the 13 per cent increase of visitation numbers to Barbados from Canada in 2024.
Top Canadian media and trendsetters were brought together to discover destination Barbados with island storytelling, live entertainment and vibrant cuisine at the “Media and Key Influencer Dinner”. While at the “Luxury Travel Advisor Experience”, the island’s latest tourism products were highlighted to display Barbados’ luxury offerings such as Apes Hill Barbados Golf Resort and the first forthcoming international Pendry location. The travel advisors left the event with a newfound motivation for selling destination Barbados.
One of the most notable events held by the BTMI during Barbados Week in Toronto was the “Celebration of Culture, Connection and Community”. This event was directed towards engagement with the diaspora at colleges and universities. The students who participated are representatives of an emerging market segment that seek cultural immersion as an essential aspect of their solo, family or friend group travel.
At “The Bajan Lime”, mixologist, Phillip “Casanova” Antoine crafted specially curated rum cocktails for the rum enthusiasts, who also used the occasion to network and expand their rum knowledge. Barbados Week in Toronto introduced, “Barbados is on the Menu” which was a culinary adventure that brought Barbadian tradition and flair to the table. Chef Javon Cummins took over the Toronto gastronomic scene by pairing authentic storytelling with island flavour to bring this innovative culinary experience to life!
Barbados Week in Toronto proved to be an amazing opportunity as BTMI continues to further immerse Canadians in experiences that share all of what makes Barbados an impeccable destination for travel.
