As Barbados continues to spotlight connection, culture, and community through the We Gatherin’ initiative, a powerful new collaboration is taking shape to uplift education. We Gatherin’ has officially partnered with the National Task Force on Literacy and Education to launch the “Come ‘Long Home and Bring a Book” campaign. The campaign which was launched in February 2025, re-encouraged Barbadians in the diaspora to give back through the gift of reading.

This initiative invites returning nationals and visitors to donate books to support the island’s national reading programme as they seek to  empower the next generation with tools that ignite curiosity, expand imagination, and strengthen literacy across all communities.

Whether you’re coming home for a short visit or reconnecting after years away, “Come ‘Long Home and Bring a Book” offers a meaningful way to contribute to national development. Books can be dropped off at any of the approved donation locations:

  • A1 Supermarket, Emerald City, Six Roads
  • A1 Supermarket, Black Rock
  • Brydens Stationery, Sky Mall

These drop-off points offer convenient access for both locals and returning Barbadians who wish to support the cause. Donations of new or gently used books—ranging from children’s stories to teen fiction, Caribbean literature, and inspirational works are  welcomed.

By partnering with the National Task Force on Literacy and Education, We Gatherin’ continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development through cultural and educational engagement. This campaign reflects the spirit of unity and shared responsibility that defines the Barbadian identity. It is more than just a book drive, it is a movement that encourages the diaspora to invest in Barbados’ future, one reader at a time.
